Around Hillsdale

Our first day in Hillsdale we got a nice tour, by

our tour director, Walker.

 

 

We had a chat with Winston Churchill.

 

A tour of the place Walker's been living in for the last year.

He and his friends were in one of several apartments in this lovely old house one block from the college campus.

 

 

The Senior Class painted memories on the campus.

 

I took dozens of photos of houses I thought were

beautiful, and maybe sketch-able.

 

We really liked downtown Hillsdale.

I felt like I was on a movie set.

 

It seems like it would be a hard place to leave.

 

Friday

and best of all a chance to meet some of Walker's college friends.

Spring Break Day 2

Not so many photos today, but still a lot of fun...

A trip to the bookstore to play with the Thomas The Tank Engine railroad...

 

a great rainy day activity.

 

Wyatt plays very intensely.

He cried when we left,

 

but only for a minute...

 

Because we were going to see his beloved Great BaPa and Great Grandmama.

They met us at Eagan's for burgers and fries.

We all enjoyed it so much.

I have two days left in my Art Journaling class. I may just finish them both up tonight. I'm greedy that way. This is my most recent finished page. You'll recognize my girl, but now she has words in her hair! It says "FOREVER IS COMPOSED OF NOWS" emily dickenson. I also stamped words I liked up and down the side and added some more journaling.

Below is my newest unfinished spread -- a colorful alphabet on one side. This is my first ever, what I would call "success" with watercolors. I love it. Notice the blue shadowing? I thought that would look horrible and messy...but I was wrong. I think that is what I always liked about watercolors: your brain seems to be able to fill in the spaces and make it look better than it is...
...and the right side is my journaling. I wish I had used a bigger book, better watercolor paper, regular binding (not rings)...but I am going to finish this one up and learn from my mistakes with my next book.

Today I also started listening to the lectures on the Hillsdale College Constitution 101 on-line class. I think I'll post a link on facebook if anyone else is interested. They give you a place to make a donation, but you don't have to. There are ten lectures by various Hillsdale professors and the college President. Each lecture has a study guide, discussion questions, and a quiz at the end. I don't think I'll take the quiz...I'm too long out of school for that! I've been enjoying the shots of the school and some history of the college snuck in with the lecture, probably just for the first one.

Convocation at Hillsdale College! Inspiring speech by President Dr. Larry Arnn.

This day was the world's fastest whirlwind! We arrived at 4:00, just in time for the Convocation. Then Phil and I were rushed off to the parent's send-off dinner while Walker had a barbeque with his new friends! We met up afterwards to unload everything Walker needs for the next 9 months. He still had lots to do: unpacking, dorm meetings, games and stuff. Phil and I took photos of the campus and went to our motel. We got up at 7:00 a.m. the next day, stopped by to see Walker and deliver his i-pod as he rushed off to take a Latin placement test and bye bye Walker and Michigan.

Gifts from Aunt Claudia!

Today I wore my "Hillsdale College" T-shirt out on errands. At my first stop, a nice lady stopped me and asked if I went to Hillsdale. I explained that we had just dropped our son off at Hillsdale College and she was very excited and said "Well, BLESS you!" She knew all about Hillsdale and had read imprimus for years. She has a grandson who was just starting up at PLU this year. We had a very nice visit and promised to pray for each other's student.
