The star of the beginning of my blog is my apple cake! Beautiful, isn't it? But I couldn't choose which image, so I have three! I told Phil I wasn't going to make this cake again, 'cause it has all that butter and sour cream and sugar - and well, you know there's only Phil and I to eat it all!!! And we will!!! BUT, Phil tasted it and said it is "the best thing I have ever made" and "don't you dare throw away the recipe". So ....

This morning was foggy, and I made myself stop and take some pictures of the capitol. I took quite a few of this too, but this is probably the most interesting. The foggy day promised to turn into a sunny one.
Today is my fun Thursday. I like to meet Vicki at the Farmer's Market and today was an especially nice day because it was sunny and bright but not so many people there. They even have installed heaters inside in the aisles for winter. Its open through December. Vicki stepped out of the way everytime I even sort of aimed the camera in her direction. But, she was good about suggesting places to walk for a possible shoot.
This is the garden at the end of the market. We ate our lunch near here - Vicki had spinach ravioli - I had a blt on focaccia bread. mmm Does it sound like I'm obsessing about food?
Another pretty view of the garden. After this, we walked over to the boardwalk and looked at the boats and flowers and people and animals. I also made a quick stop at Trader Joes. Also a treat.

We are having such nice weather it doesn't really even feel like October! Here is a picture of our house with some fall leaves in front. You can see we still have our sun umbrella up! Not too many leaves in our yard are changing yet, but I've been seeing some color around town. Today I was out and I am sure I saw a Mountain Bluebird! There are not that many blue birds out there and it was definately not a blue jay. It was so pretty, and just 5 feet away! I tried to import a picture from the internet, but alas I am not good enough to figure that out yet.
I had another good trip to Goodwill today. I am so drawn to see if there is a treasure waiting for me there! I found a few goodies -- This little cigar box - 25 Senoritas! cute huh? $1.99. 
I just took a fast spin down the book aisle and this one jumped out at me! A Dover Publication of vintage ladies' patterns - it has the most amazing images in it and its in perfect condition! I'll use it for card making and journal art.
Here is a photo of all three things I got. I found one more plain cigar box. I will store art supplies in it and put cute tags that hang on the outside showing what is inside. The cigar boxes always smell yummy inside.
I found one more treasure there -- I ran into our friends Jon and Genny. Genny babysat Walker when he was 6 months to 3 years old and we have kept in touch ever since.

Pumpkin pie - the start of the holiday season at our house. I barely got this photo, its the last of two pieces left of TWO Pies! 
I put this pretty blossom in my teddy bear cup and saucer. Its really for drinking my tea in, but I thought this was cute for today.
I visited my sister Jonny today, talked to Walker on the phone, talked to Alan on the phone, and everyday I communicate with Carissa and Tirzah through our blogs. Walker thinks he may start a blog so he can post the photos he is taking. We are having a spell of beautiful sunny weather all week. Today was almost 70 degrees!

Today I got up and went to the dentist. I had an appointment for a teeth cleaning. The hygenist actually broke a tool in my mouth! Yikes! It didn't hurt, she just had to do an x-ray to make sure there wasn't a sliver of metal stuck in my mouth somewhere. That was weird! Anyway, then to work for the rest of the day.
I accidentally stumbled on this photo of a craft I did last Christmas for a gift exchange, and I really wanted to keep it for myself. I can make another one! Especially now that I have the photo to look at! That little girl is an ancestor. I don't know who. I just decorated an vintage bottle.
At Goodwill I bought a little velvet clutch, and pinned all my "East Coast Trip" souvenir pins to it. I have been looking for a black velvet purse, but this came out pretty well. I will hang it in my room somewhere as a momento.
More Bras! This is probably the last. I found six that I thought my friend would have fun sharing with her dorm girls. I wonder what the lady at Goodwill thought - they are all different sizes!
We have a cozy fire in the fireplace tonight and Phil is stocking the emergency food pantry. All is well.

Today is Phil's birthday and we celebrated in several ways, but one thing we decided to do was go to the Nisqually Bird Refuge and go for a hike. You know me, I am always trying to get myself into my photos, and I think this is about the best shot yet! It was such a beautiful day, sunny and relatively warm (62 degrees). We did not see many birds - except hundreds of geese! It was still a fun walk and a good chance to get outside on a nice day.
All around the Bird Refuge there were these painted plywood fish, painted by children and stuck along the roads and sidewalks everywhere. I think there were as many fish as geese! They were cute and I got a shot of these few.
We also took a side trip to Borders and came home to make a Mexican dinner. We had a great telephone visit with Walker this morning too. He sounds great and is enjoying school, both socially and academically. I made pumpkin pies for Phil's birthday instead of cake (his request!). His birthday always kicks off our Fall to New Years events and parties: Phil's birthday, my birthday, lots of other birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and then we can start looking forward to spring!

Yesterday I went to Goodwill looking for a certain size picture frame (didn't find one) and while I was there Vicki called me on my cell phone and we chatted for a few minutes. When she heard I was in Goodwill, she asked me to do her a favor and see how much their bras were, as her daughter (in college) is looking for some bras for an activity for the girls in her dorm (at CWU) to decorate and maybe wear outside their clothing for breast cancer awareness month! These are what I found for her. They were both surprised (stunned?) to find I had just decorated a purple bra myself! However, I won't be wearing mine under or over anything! 
Here are some other treasures from my shopping expedition: Anne of Green Gables doll - I was inspired by Tirzah's before and after doll makeover and have been looking for one to do myself! This is a very sweet faced vinyl doll with a cloth body. Her hair is pretty good and she has her boots, socks, bloomers, and dress. I didn't know her name, I just liked the doll, but noticed a name after I got home. I also found two cigar boxes. I like to use them for storing things in my craft room. One wooden one (a real treasure) and one that looks like cardboard, but it is wood underneath the paper. The doll was $2.99! Ooops, you can see a little bit of my messy messy room in the background!

Today Phil and I went for a walk around our neighborhood. We walked for an hour and ten minutes, no resting! This is some Queen Anne's Lace we saw along the way. 
This is a peek-a-boo view of some neighbors' restful spot in their garden. Isn't it beautiful? I love the blue chairs! I think I want a spot just like this somewhere around our house some day!
This is some newer neighbors along our hike. I loved the roofline, the trees, the water in the background. Doesn't it look warm and peaceful?

This blog should be labelled October 2 I guess, because it is still early on the 3rd - Something interesting is bound to happen today! I have put in a few shots from my sketch book. I'm trying to draw in it every day and I've been using a really nice black ink pen. Of course I am only including my best work -- some of it is pretty bad! I drew this image from a magazine advertisement:
I tried my hand at drawing roses from a gardening book I have. I was pretty pleased that I could get enough lines in the right place that you can see what it is supposed to be. By the way, my inspiration for all this is AJ's drawing class, which I attend with him. He and I are both enjoying it a lot!
This was an idea I got from someone else's art journal. I wrote all about my day as this lady's hair! I drew this one while AJ was in a class and I was waiting outside in my car.
Finally, I spent last night decorating this purple bra for a "bling your bra" contest and fund raiser that is going on at Sharin' Memories. (Breast Cancer Awareness month) I bought this purple bra on a clearance rack at Fred Meyer - I had some "silk" flowers that I pulled the centers out of, and replaced with bling-y buttons and diamonds. Then I decided some GREEN feathers and sea-shells would complete the look! And, to remind others that it is a fund-raiser, I thought these fake $100 bills would be amusing! There is a little guardian angel hanging down from the center. I'm taking it over for display today. I hope they don't make me model it! : )
